Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that produces plaques of thickened scaling skin. These scales are due to the rapid production of skin cells, taking just a few days to replace themselves. This process usually takes 21-28 days. It effects men, woman and children and can occur at any age. The severity of the condition varies enormously from minute patches to larger areas covering the entire body.

Although the common form features red, raised scaly plaques, there are a number of types of psoriasis that include but are not limited to:

  • Plaque Psoriasis – Most common. Pink raised patches found most commonly on the knees and elbows.
  • Flexural Psoriasis – Effects skin folds and tends to be where skin is thinner and more sensitive.
  • Pustular Psoriasis – Rare and severe. Papules develop over the skin.
  • Erythrodermic Psoriasis – Rare and severe. Skin becomes red and inflamed all over the body and appears like sunburn.
  • Gutate Psoriasis – Small, scaly, inflamed spots appear all over the body.

Psoriasis is a complicated condition that is very unique to each individual. A treatment package will be tailor made depending on the severity of your psoriasis.
